We would like to invite you to a day of gardening at our Fa Hong mountain monastery on Saturday, December 19th. Together with our residential permaculture designer Rija, you will discover how to practice organic gardening to grow food, which includes planting, mulching, and composting. We will also introduce mindful gardening and how to carry it out as a meditative practice. Lunch will be a vegetarian potluck, whereby we cook together the ingredients that you bring with you. Refreshments offered during breaks. On our way to the monastery, We will pick up together the trash left on the trail in order to keep nature free from irresponsible encroachment of man-made litter as we walk down.

Time: 10 am - 5 pm

Meeting Time & Location: 10am at bus drop-off in Ngong Ping (to get to Ngong Ping, you can take the Bus no. 23 from Tung Chung or the Bus no. 2 from Mui Wo. Taxi is also an option at either place)

10:00 Meet in Ngong Ping. Conscious green hiking as we walk downhill an easy trail
11:00 Break with refreshment at the monastery, explaining of the logistics for lunch
11:30 Introduction to permaculture, to the garden and to mindful practices in the garden
12:00 Harvest from the garden, cooking and lunch time, explaining of hands-on activities
14:00 Hands-on activities in the garden
15:30 mindfulness sitting meditation (optional)
16:00 End of the activities, parting. (recommended route: downhill towards Tung Chung)
What to Bring: Vegetarian ingredients to make a dish for our potluck lunch and suitable hiking gear
Please do join us in helping the HKIMS to kickstart its organic food garden so we can all enjoy its fruits during residential retreats. It will also be a wonderful opportunity to discover what a food chain that’s healthy for you and the planet looks like, to spend time away from the urban hub and get close to nature with your family, and apply your meditation training to nature.
